Milton Youth Soccer Club is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for young soccer players to train under the guidance of one of Europe’s elite coaches, Alberto Bollini. The International Soccer Camp will take place from July 22-26, 2024, at Lions Park in Milton, Ontario. Coach Bollini, currently the head coach of Italy's U20 Men's National Team, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. His accolades include winning the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and leading the team to the runner-up position in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Most recently, he coached the Italian team to victory in the U20 European Championship in 2024.

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to Milton Youth Soccer Club, Kim Lee, as our Referee Development Manager. With over 14 years of experience as a Match Official, Kim brings a wealth of expertise and passion for the game to our organization. Kim’s journey in refereeing has been nothing short of remarkable. She has served as a Provincial Match Official and officiated matches in League One, as well as at the OUA/OCAA level. Her dedication to the sport has also taken her to the Canadian National Championships, where she both played and officiated. Not stopping there, Kim has also excelled as a Futsal Match Official, assessor, mentor, fitness trainer, and IT professional.

In a groundbreaking development for Milton Magic Soccer Club 17-year-old Michela Ionadi, from Milton, has taken a giant leap in her soccer career. After seven months of intensive training in Italy, Ionadi has committed for the 2024/2025 season to Ternana Calcio Women’s Professional Football Club, marking a significant milestone in her already impressive journey in soccer.

As I survey the sidelines, discreetly observing impassioned discussions among parents, attend obligatory parent-coach meetings, and or have 1 on 1 discussions with parents who have a concern with their child's development or playing time, the perennial topic of whether coaches have favourites never fails to captivate. Do Coaches Have Favourites?

We are thrilled to announce that for the second consecutive year, Milton Magic has been invited to compete in the prestigious 2024 Lazio Cup, held in Italy. The 7th Edition of the Professional tournament “U14 Lazio Cup 2024” stands as one of the most significant Easter Pro Tournaments in Italy, boasting a rich history of attracting top talent from across the globe.

Since my last contribution I was approached about understanding the pathway to the professional world of soccer in Europe. First and foremost parents need to understand that FIFA decided in 2009 to ban the transfer of players under the age of 18, with three exceptions (as laid down in Article 19 of FIFA’s International Transfer Regulations); that the child’s parents change countries for reasons unrelated to football; that the transfer takes place between countries of the EU or the European Economic Area, the player being between 16 and 18 years of age; or that the player and the club of destination belong to countries no more than 50 kilometers from the border.

Often, I am approached with inquiries about the steps a player can take to optimize their chances of securing a student-athlete scholarship for soccer. It's a question that resonates with many parents seeking the best guidance for their aspiring athletes. In navigating this journey, it's crucial to address common misconceptions. A staggering 98% of club coaches, while well-intentioned, may not have the direct capacity to secure scholarships. The truth is, only about 2%— comprising university/college head coaches or assistant coaches—hold the keys to such opportunities.

As we navigate the intricacies of developing our young athletes, it is essential to recognize and embrace the profound life lessons that soccer imparts. As the Director of Soccer Operations, I have been asked if I would contribute to the Club’s monthly newsletter to the membership. I am a person of few words as I believe that actions speak louder than words. However, with the Club as big as it is and continuing to grow as the Town of Milton does, being available to meet and talk with each member about the vision of the Club would be an impossible task but one I am willing to do over time.
