Recreational Program
Welcome to Milton Magic FC’s Recreational Soccer Program!
At Milton Magic FC, our recreational soccer program is our in-house league played within our community borders, designed to provide a fun and inclusive environment for children of all skill levels to enjoy the beautiful game of soccer. Recreation, in the context of our program, emphasizes the joy of playing, physical literacy, and fostering a sense of community among players, parents, and coaches.
What ‘Recreation’ Means:
Inclusive Fun: Our emphasis is on creating an atmosphere where every child feels welcome and valued. The recreational program is not solely focused on competition but on the sheer enjoyment of playing soccer.
Physical Literacy: While having fun is a priority, we also recognize the importance of physical literacy development and some skill development based on the knowledge of the volunteer coach. Our coaching staff is committed to helping each player enhance their abilities, promoting growth and confidence on the field.
If you desire more skill development with the licensed coaching staff, please visit MY Skilz Centre.
If you desire a more competitive environment with licensed coaching staff competing against neighbouring clubs within Peel Halton Region, please visit our Competitive Program
Team Building: Recreational soccer is an excellent platform for building teamwork and camaraderie. Players learn to work together, support one another, and develop lasting friendships through shared experiences on and off the field.
Low Pressure, High Enjoyment: Unlike more competitive teams’ programs, the recreational soccer environment is lower pressure, allowing children to explore the sport without the stress of intense competition. This approach encourages a lifelong love for the game.
Positive Coaching: Our coaches prioritize positive reinforcement, encouragement, and sportsmanship. We believe in building not only skilled players but also responsible and respectful individuals.
What Parents Can Expect:
Supportive Environment: Parents can expect a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where their child’s well-being and enjoyment are paramount.
Communication: Regular communication from coaches and the club will keep parents informed about schedules, events, and any updates related to the recreational program.

Divisions
Parent & Tot
Milton Magic FC’s Parent and Tot program is for children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old. This program focuses on motivation, confidence, physical competence and gaining the knowledge and understanding of soccer. Each focus is taught through fun and engaging activities run by our coaching staff to help build each player’s skills. Our parent and Tot program does require a parent to participate in each activity.
U4-U7 Active Start
In this developmental phase ages U4 to U7, the focus is on cultivating fundamental movement skills and establishing basic physical literacy, prioritizing general athleticism over soccer-specific abilities. The child’s ability to control both their body and the ball hinges on developing essential physical literacy. Key components like agility, balance, and coordination play a pivotal role in shaping a well-rounded athlete. The primary objective is to craft an early and positive encounter by blending physical activity with soccer, setting the groundwork for a lasting passion for the sport.
- 3v3 format
- 10 min warmup, 15 mins skills/drills, 30 min game
U8-U9 Fundamentals
The Fundamentals stage is designed for players ages U8 and U9 in the early chapters of their soccer journey. The aim is to introduce children to the foundational aspects of the sport. In this phase, the primary focus is to familiarize young players with fundamental soccer skills (Receiving, Dribbling, Passing and Striking the ball), all within a dynamic and engaging environment. Significantly, the stage places special emphasis on nurturing basic motor skills and coordination while concurrently fostering a sincere love for the game. The overarching goal is not only skill acquisition but also the cultivation of a genuine and lasting passion for soccer, creating a solid platform for their ongoing development in the sport.
- 5v5 format
- 2×20 min halves
- 1 hour practice session (summer only)
U10-U12 Learn 2 Train
The phase encompassing the U10 to U12 age groups marks the third stage in our players’ soccer development, often referred to as the ‘golden age of learning.’ During this pivotal stage, the influence of role models becomes significantly pronounced and children can take in more instruction and focus on the task presented by the volunteer coach. Children in this age range start to connect with renowned players and successful teams, exhibiting a keen interest in acquiring imaginative skills. The emphasis here lies in skill demonstration, recognizing that players at this stage learn most effectively through active participation and hands-on experience. As they aspire to emulate their soccer heroes, providing opportunities for practical application becomes crucial in shaping their developmental journey.
- U10/U11
- 7v7 game format
- 2×25 min halves
- 1 hour practice session (summer only)

U13+ Soccer for Life
‘Soccer for Life’ represents a developmental stage in soccer that centres on fostering long-term engagement and enjoyment of the game. Positioned after the ‘Learn to Train’ stage, it forms an integral part of the Canada Soccer Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) pathway for players who do not want the competitive or commitment level of a high-performance team. This phase underscores the commitment to nurturing a lasting connection to soccer, emphasizing sustained participation with a continued sense of enjoyment throughout the player’s journey in the sport is the focus.

- 11v11 game format

Volunteer Coaches:
Our recreational program operates with the invaluable contributions of volunteer coaches who generously offer their time and effort to give back to the community. It’s important to note that these coaches may not have a soccer background but bring enthusiasm, dedication, and a genuine love for helping children learn, grow, and have a positive soccer experience.
