David Benning
Director of Soccer Operations
David joins the Milton Magic as Director of Soccer Operations. He will enhance Milton Magic FC’s programs with his extensive experience and expertise, driving the Club’s future growth and success.
Previously, David served as Director of Soccer Operations at Pickering FC, where he played a key role in the club’s development and strategic planning. His leadership and dedication propelled Pickering FC to new heights.
At Milton Magic FC, David will oversee technical matters, act as a liaison with governing bodies, and implement strategic plans to foster a positive and high-standard culture. He will collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to develop a strategic blueprint for the Club, covering all levels from recreational to high-performance programs.
David’s role includes supporting and mentoring coaches, helping them enhance their skills and obtain necessary licenses. His past positions include Technical Director at Glen Shields SC, Technical Programs Manager at Canada Soccer, and Assistant Coach for the U17 Women’s National Team.
David’s leadership during the pandemic ensured continuous programming at Pickering FC, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. His coaching experience spans grassroots to national teams, including university and college levels.
As a former player, David competed in youth soccer in Toronto and earned a scholarship to NCAA Division 1 George Washington University. He also played in the National Soccer League for clubs like Panhellenic and Toronto Italia.
With credentials including a CSA National ‘A’ License, CSA Youth & Children License, Technical Director Diploma, and Learning Facilitator License, David is equipped to advance Milton Magic FC, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.

Milton Youth Soccer Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Carlos Recinos as the Director of Coaching. Carlos joined Milton in October 2021 and brings a wealth of experience from his coaching roles with Ancaster SC, Hamilton United, and Oakville Blue Devils. His background includes both technical and administrative positions, showcasing his comprehensive expertise in soccer development.
“I have great respect for Carlos. Our time together during the Technical Directors course in 2023 allowed me to witness his passion for the game and his empathy for others. I knew immediately Carlos would be the perfect partner on the senior technical staff to work with all our coaches across all programs,” said David Benning, Director of Soccer Operations.
Carlos has extensive experience in designing and implementing recreational programs and overseeing player development in 9v9 and within the OPDL. His commitment to transforming Milton Magic from a local community club to a high-performance club is evident. His immediate impact was felt when he led the B2009 team to the Ontario Indoor Cup Championships in February 2022.
Carlos’s playing career from youth to university with Universidad de San Carlos Guatemala has provided him with a solid foundation in soccer development. His journey includes:
· Early Talent Recognition: Scouted at age 11 for the local city team and identified twice to play for the state team representation at the National Games.
· National Recognition: Invited to the national training ground at age 12, where he was nicknamed “Super Mouse” for his exceptional abilities.
· National Program: Joined the Semillero Nacional in 1983 and played within the national program until age 15, developing his skills further.
Carlos’s coaching career is equally impressive:
· Ancaster Soccer Club (2004-2015): Volunteered for 11 years, eventually becoming Director of Competitive and Interim General Manager.
· Hamilton United OPDL (2015-2018): Head Coach for BU14, BU15, and BU16, helping develop players for the Canada National Excel Program and the Canada Concacaf Team BU15.
· Oakville Blue Devils Academy (2018): Head Coach of Academy Teams and Technical Lead for the Academy 9v9 Playing Format Program, facilitating player development for Toronto FC Academy.
Carlos holds several coaching qualifications:
· Accepted into the class of 2025 for the Canadian Soccer Association ‘A’ License.

Ryan Mendonca

Ryan Mendonca joins the Milton Magic Technical Staff as the Director of Player Development. He previously served as the Sporting Director of Tecumseh Soccer Club in Windsor and contributed to the University of Windsor Men’s program. Ryan is dedicated to engaging, educating, and guiding player development while ensuring the game remains enjoyable.
His appointment was a strategic decision by Director of Soccer Operations, David Benning. They share a commitment to preparing young players for the next level in soccer and life by nurturing intrinsic motivation, preserving individual creative strengths, and fostering an environment that cultivates young leadership qualities.
“Ryan is the perfect individual for our club at a time when we need to redefine our purpose and evolve into an organization that is a ‘home for all.’ His philosophy of developing not only players and coaches but also good citizens aligns perfectly with our vision,” said David Benning.
Ryan’s playing experience as a goalkeeper at Detroit Mercy in the NCAA, along with his strong connections with American and Canadian universities and colleges, will enhance opportunities for our players.

1. Create an environment where players are engaged & invested in their development. Prioritize the individual philosophy described below, encourage autonomy and nurture young leadership qualities.
2. Introduce an understanding of Tactics, even at a young age, with age-appropriate expectations (develop a basic understanding of tactics & team concepts)
3. Encourage individual competitiveness. Provide players with consistent feedback and progress reports so that they can “compete” with their former “self.” Engage players in Goal Setting & Game Reflection exercises to outline a pathway for progress individually and as a “team.”

Sam Medeiros joins Milton Magic FC as the newly appointed Technical Programs Manager. In this role, Sam will collaborate closely with our Director of Soccer Operations, David Benning, to develop youth players by setting high standards for training and gameplay. With over 30 years of experience in player development, Sam brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the club.
“Sam and I have had a long relationship, both as competitors on the field and as coaches. The competitiveness and dedication he brings to player development and technical programs have led to the success of many players who have gone on to successful soccer careers. His remarkable success is exactly what Milton Magic needed to establish a winning culture and turn the club around,” said David Benning.
Sam has a distinguished coaching career with youth clubs in the York Region District Soccer Association, including Glen Shields, Unionville, and Vaughan. His involvement in the Ontario Provincial programs, the CPSL, and League 1 has provided him with a deep understanding of the standards and culture necessary for success at Milton Magic.
Sam’s playing experience includes his time in Portugal with Gil Vicente and Trofense, where he played as a striker. This background gives him valuable insights into the player’s perspective and the demands of high-level competition.
Dedicated to continuous learning, Sam holds various coaching licenses, reflecting his commitment to staying current with the latest best practices in player development. As Technical Programs Manager, he will be instrumental in creating and overseeing several supplementary programs, including:
· In-house Excel Program: Designed for players who show potential and commitment, offering additional training opportunities rather than going elsewhere.
· Advanced Technical Skills: Focused on grassroots players to enhance proficiency in 1vs1 attacking.
· Finishing Program: Aimed at attacking players to improve their clinical finishing skills.

Cristina Romanelli
Technical Programs Manager
Cristina posses close to 25 years of coaching experience, having coached at the Grassroots level to the Women’s League 1 reserve level.
Cristina was the Head Female Coach at The Juventus Academy Toronto where she started of with 2 teams the 2008 girls and 2006 boys working to develop and build the female program creating the 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 girls’ teams, Cristina was also responsible for all player development within the competitive teams.
Cristina was able to accomplish many championships during her coaching ventures 4x Futsal Championships, Assistant to 6 Ontario Cup Championship, Liverpool Invitational Championship (Auburn, Michigan) 3x I-Model championships and 1 x I-model finalist and 2x Ontario Cup Finalist.
Cristina has played at high levels of soccer, having played in Australia at the university level. She then left to pursue the dream of playing professional soccer in Europe where her travels saw her play in Portugal, Germany, and Spain. She finished off her career in Lazio Italy where she then played for her final four years before returning to Canada.

As the Recreational Programs Manager at Milton Magic FC, Serena brings over 10 years of experience within the club, encompassing roles as a player, coach, and programs lead. Her journey began in recreational soccer, which gives her a unique understanding of the importance of grassroots programs in developing both a love for the game and valuable life skills. Over the years, she has worked with age groups ranging from U4 to Super 7’s, tailoring programs to meet the developmental needs of young players while ensuring a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
At Milton Magic FC she will oversee the planning, implementation, and management of our Recreational Soccer Programs, ensuring they are accessible, engaging, and aligned with the club’s mission of fostering community and personal growth. Johnathan Ljubanovich

Profession: MSc. Candidate, Master of Science in Applied Health Science (Kinesiology) at Brock University.
Education Background: Johnathan completed his Bachelor’s of Kinesiology, focusing on athletic performance and injury rehabilitation. Concurrently he completed various certifications from the Internation Sports Science Association (ISSA) relative to strength and conditioning. Johnathan is currently in the MSc. program at Brock where he is completing a thesis in Environmental Exercise Physiology.
Playing Experience: Johnathan grew up playing goalkeeper for multiple clubs in the GTA including Brampton Youth Soccer Club, Bryst FA and Erin Mills Soccer Club before playing in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) for Croatian National Sports Club Toronto Croatia (C.N.S.C Toronto Croatia). During this time, he was also a part of Ontario Soccer’s regional and provincial programs from u13-u17. Following his time as youth athlete Johnathan remained involved in youth soccer with various roles as a goalkeeper coach, and strength and conditioning coach at various clubs.

Playing Experience: Johnathan grew up playing goalkeeper for multiple clubs in the GTA including Brampton Youth Soccer Club, Bryst FA and Erin Mills Soccer Club before playing in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) for Croatian National Sports Club Toronto Croatia (C.N.S.C Toronto Croatia). During this time, he was also a part of Ontario Soccer’s regional and provincial programs from u13-u17. Following his time as youth athlete Johnathan remained involved in youth soccer with various roles as a goalkeeper coach, and strength and conditioning coach at various clubs.
