Find Your Rhythm, Find Your Game
By Gina Alfieri, CNP NNCP
September means new beginnings — new school year, new soccer season, and a chance to step onto the field stronger than ever. Here’s the secret to success: it’s not about doing more, it’s about finding your rhythm.
Every great player has one. You can too.
Train with Purpose
When you’re at practice — be all in. Hustle, listen, push yourself. Then let it go. You don’t need to train 24/7; you need to train smart. Small, consistent effort every week builds skills that last.
Rest Like a Pro
Guess what? Rest is part of training. Champions don’t just work hard — they recover hard. Sleep is your superpower: it sharpens your focus, fuels your energy, and even protects you from injuries. Younger players need 9-11 hours of sleep, while teens should aim for 8-10. Turn off the screens at night and let your body recharge.
Fuel Up, Play Strong
Food is your fuel. Eat like the athlete you are. A snack before practice — maybe a banana with nut butter — gives you energy to run. After practice, refuel with protein plus carbs, like yogurt and berries or chicken and rice. And don’t forget water. It’s the simplest performance tool you have.
Balance School and Soccer
Being a student-athlete isn’t easy — but it’s worth it. Use your time wisely. Homework first, then soccer, then rest. Keep your priorities clear, and you’ll crush it in the classroom and on the pitch.
Build Your Routine, Build Your Confidence
Your routine is your rhythm. It keeps you steady when life gets busy. Train, rest, fuel, focus — repeat. Do this, and not only will your game improve, but so will your confidence in school and in life.
This season, make it your goal to stick to a routine that supports all of you. You’ll feel the difference, and so will your team.
Let’s make this season unforgettable.
